Located on the grounds of
the Hartford House, the home built by General James S. Wadsworth in 1835
The
Free Soil Farm was founded in 2009 by Corrin Strong and Amy Carpenter on the grounds
of the Hartford House. Currently we have four acres of vegetables under cultivation.
We are not certified organic but we do not use any chemical herbicides or pesticides
in our production.
We operate a seasonal
farm market that is located on Avon Road (NYS Rt. 39) just north of the Livingston
County Courthouse. You can join our CSA (Community
Supported Agriculture) and enjoy substantial savings on your produce.
We
also offer accomodations at The Garden Suite at
the Hartford House from May to October. We are now booking outdoor weddings at
the Hartford House starting in June of 2011.
About the name: Gen.
Wadsworth was one of the founders of the Free Soil political party in
the 1840s. This anti-slavery party was a forerunner of the modern
Republican party. The name also refers to our practice of keeping the
soil free of chemical herbicides and pesticides.
